BP2_20091101_Educational Use of Blogs

After looking around on the web, I discovered a multitude of ways thfor educators to utilize blogs in their classrooms.

Teacher’s blogs can be used to post assignments or idea starters for students’ writing assignments. Students can respond to their teachers or host their own blogs, either collectively as a class or individually. As a class, students can post weekly or daily news about what they are learning in a specific subject area or it could be created with a diary style commentary that reflects everything that happens throughout the day. Individually, students have a variety of ways they can express themselves academically. Blogs could be used to showcase their best writing, to write their writing assignments so they are all kept in one place or as a place to voice opinions about local or national current events. Students can write in response to the teacher’s video posts, to respond to what they are reading, showcase artwork or to interact with other classes around the world.

With so many possibilities, it all comes down to the student’s ability to express themselves and to keep a record of their responses in one virtual place. Whether the content was initiated by the student or the teacher, students will have a place that holds their thoughts and dialog on any academic subject.
